“I have been living in a refugee camp for 11 years. In 2018, I started coaching on a voluntary basis with Plan International. Charmante and Emmanuel trained me to be a coach. Charmante trained me using the education she received from you [the Scort Foundation & FCSA]. She is my role model and teacher. She taught me to coach, particularly the younger children.

As coaches in the refugee camp, we create teams and engage the children on the playground where they learn football skills and have educational sessions on different topics afterwards. Mostly, we talk about hygiene, the importance of education, the prevention of bad habits such as the use of drugs and how to report any harm. We also visit the parents. We are having good relationships with the family members to monitor the children, particularly on education and behaviour.

Since the children started attending our activities, their level of football skills have improved. But not only that, also their commitment has improved. They now behave better and even like to study.

My highlight from the Follow-up education was to learn how to coach children with disabilities, particularly deaf. I learnt how to train them so that they could play like others. I also gained a lot of knowledge and skills related to coaching children and building good relationships with them. When working with children, the most important thing is to be a role model. I learnt that what I do and how I behave, is what they will do.”
